“We support the call for a review of the situation in Hungary to determine if there has been a breach to EU values and for appropriate action to be taken if a breach has occurred, as outlined in a Resolution adopted by the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties recently (June 25th).
EU values including democracy, the rule of law and human rights are of the utmost importance and must be respected. We urge the Hungarian government to work with the EU institutions to address these concerns. That has always been our consistent position, which we have voiced within our own political grouping of the European People’s Party. That is why we supported the parliamentary Resolution of 17 May 2017 mandating the committee to make their recommendations. A significant number of EPP Members share our concerns.
The draft Resolution is due to come before all MEPs during plenary votes in September.”
